The 2025 Changzhou Workers’ Football League officially kicked off on the afternoon of 20 September at Xiyuan Experimental Junior High School in Wujin District.
Held under the slogan “Workers’ Football, Shared Joy; Love Football, Love Life!”, the league is jointly organised by the Changzhou Federation of Trade Unions and the Municipal Sports Bureau. This year’s event brings together 32 teams and 1,148 players, aged between 18 and 50, with an average age of 36.8—showcasing a vibrant mix of participants that embodies the spirit of inclusiveness and teamwork among the city’s workforce.
The competition, featuring 11-a-side men’s football, will span two months and include 64 matches. It stands as the largest, most widely participated and highest-level workers’ football tournament held in Changzhou in recent years—an event designed to engage the public and celebrate workers as the central protagonists of city sports culture.
At the opening ceremony, team crests gleamed under the lights as flags fluttered across the field. Accompanied by a stirring march, referees and players from the opening match entered the pitch with pride and determination, symbolising the energy and unity of Changzhou’s working community. Athlete and referee representatives took oaths before Fan Yi, head coach of the Changzhou team in the Jiangsu City Football League tournament, who officially declared the league open.
The opening match saw Wujin Li-Auto Team face off against the Changzhou Fire Brigade Team in the first round of the group stage. Simultaneously, matches commenced across eight district venues, marking the start of an exciting city-wide celebration of grassroots sport.
