Changzhou, historically nicknamed 'Dragon City' (Longcheng), is strategically positioned as the geographic heart and a key transportation nexus within the Yangtze River Delta region. It borders the Yangtze River to the north and Taihu Lake to the south, equidistant from Shanghai and Nanjing, and forms a contiguous urban area with Suzhou and Wuxi. It is located in the northern subtropical monsoon region, characterized by a mild and humid climate, ample rainfall, and distinct seasons.The southern magnolia and the Chinese rose are Changzhou's city tree and flower respectively.

Changzhou is a significant cradle of modern national industry and commerce, one of the pioneers of township enterprises, and a cutting-edge manufacturing hub imbued with a modern vibe.

Changzhou is one of China’s few prefecture-level cities with a comprehensive transportation network integrating road,rail, waterway, aviation and pipelines. It has been selected as a national production-service-oriented logistics hub city.

TWO-WAY OPEN-UP

Changzhou has attracted 205 investment projects from 105 Fortune Global 500 companiesincluding Arcelor Mittal (Luxembourg), Medtronic Kanghui (USA), Thyssenkrupp (Germany), Sumitomo Electric (Japan),Saint-Gobain (France), and SK (South Korea) apart from Chinese enterprises.

With six provincial-level international cooperation parks, Changzhou ranks first in Jiangsu province for such parks.

The total foreign trade import and export volume reached CNY 327.39 billion. Among these, exports of the "new three" key products---electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries and solar panels---amounted to CNY 22.23 billion. Changzhou Port is designated as a national first-class open port.

As a national benchmark city for a bushiness-friendly environment, Changzhou has implemented private economy support measures officially promoted by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

One-Network Integration: "One-stop Online Access" for all government services, "Integrated City Management via a Single Platform" for urban operations, and "Unified Network" for government coordination.

"Chang Xiang Ban" Initiative: Through standardized high-quality services, one-stop access, and streamlined procedures, Changzhou is creating a world-class business-friendly environment that is market-oriented, law-base and internationalized.

Enterprise Service Portal: The"Zheng Qi Tong"(Government-Enterprise Connect) Platform is a one-stop hub for enterprise support, offering full-life cycle integration, omnichannel services, end-to-end online support, and 24/7 availability. Key features include: a centralized policy database with proactive policy alerts, automated subsidy matching algorithms, user-friendly application interfaces, streamlined online delivery of incentives, and seamless access to resources at every business stage.

REAL ECONOMY

In 2024, the added value of manufacturing accounted for approximately 40.8% of Changzhou's GDP, with the total industrial economy exceeding CNY 2.2 trillion. Changzhou ranked 17th in the national ranking of top 100 cities for advanced manufacturing.

Changzhou ranks among the top prefecture-level cities nationwide in terms of the number of national single-product champion enterprises and winners of the China Grand Awards for Industry.

Changzhou's intelligent manufacturing equipment industry has been designated as part of Chinas first batch of national strategic emerging industry clusters. Four national-level advanced manufacturing clusters led by or involving Changzhou--- new carbon materials, large aircraft. Photovoltaics, and specialty steel materials---have been recognized. 

MODERN INDUSTRIAL SYSTEM

Changzhou is forging a strategic "10x28" industrial system development pattern anchored by ten advanced manufacturing clusters spanning new energy, new energy vehicles and automotive components, intelligent equipment, new power systems, an new materials, and further powered by 28 key industry chains, including power/energy storage batteries, solar photovoltaics, artificial intelligence, and synthetic biology.

NEW ENERGY CAPITAL

Changzhou has forged a comprehensive industrial chain ecosystem spanning energy generation, storage, transmission, consumption and grid integration. The city hosts both national industry leaders including Trina Solar, Shangshang Cable and StarCharge (Wanbang Digital Energy), and major manufacturers with significant local presence such as Jiangsu CATL, BYD, Li Auto,and CALB.This robust industrial cluster has earned Changzhou the official designation as  "China's New Energy Capital" from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The scale of the new energy industry has exceeded 850 billion yuan.

Annual new energy vehicle production approached 800,000 units.

FUTURE INDUSTRIES

Changzhou has strategically structured its synthetic biology sector into a "one city, four clusters" industrial matrix,featuring specialized zones such as the Yangtze River Delta Synthetic Biology Industrial Park, Jintan Synthetic Biology Industrial Park, Xitaihu Synthetic Biology Innovation Industrial Park and Liyang Bio-Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park. Besides, Changzhou is accelerating development of hydrogen energy, low-altitude industries, and artificial intelligence sectors, positioning itself as an innovation anchor for cultivating new quality productive forces.

NATIONAL HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CITY

In Changzhou,traditional culture and modern civilization thrive in vibrant harmony. With a history spanning over 3,200 years---including more than 2,560 years of urban development---the city embodies profound Confucian heritage and rich cultural legacies.

During the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BCE), Changzhou nurtured eminent figures such as Ji Zha, a visionary statesman; Xiao Tong,compiler of Wen Xuan (the first anthology of Chinese poetry and prose); and Chen Ji, chief editor of the Yongle Encyclopedia, the largest ancient Chinese encyclopedia. The Qing Dynasty (1636-1912) saw the rise of nationally influential intellectual and artistic schools: the Changzhou School of Thought, Yanghu Literary School, Changzhou Ci (Lyric Poetry) School, Changzhou School of Painting and Menghe School of Medicine---testaments to its role as a cultural epicenter.

In the modern era, Changzhou became a cradle of visionaries and trailblazers: revolutionary leaders Qu Qiubai, ZhangTailei and Yun Dalying (collectively honored as "the Three Heroes of Changzhou); patriots Li Gongpu and Shi Liang; and eminent scholars like mathematician Hua Luogeng and artist Liu Haisu, whose legacies continue to inspire global audiences.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

TIANMU LAKE TOURIST RESORT

Hailed as the "Pearl of Jiangnan" and an "Emerald Oasis", this 320-square-kilometer region boasts a lush expanse where over 85% of the land is blanketed by thriving forests. Its pristine air peaks at a concentration of 30,000 negative oxygen ions per cubic centimeter. Visitors can immerse themselves in iconic landscapes such as the mist-kissed Shanshui Garden, the bamboo groves of Nanshan Bamboo Sea, and the mineral-rich serenity of Royal Hot Spring.

SPRING AND AUTUMN YANCHENG TOURISM AREA

Home to China’s best preserved ancient architectural complex from the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BCE), the Yancheng ruins stand out for their unique defensive system ---three concentric walled cites encircled by three moats. Other notable attractions include Baolin Temple (founded in 527 CE), the Spring and Autumn Theme Park, and Yancheng Wildlife World.

UNIVERSAL DINOSAUR TOWN

The dinosaur-themed complex spans 3.2 square kilometers, integrating core attractions such as China Dinosaur Land, Dino Water Town, Jurassic Water World, Dinoman Club Hotel, and the under-construction Dinosaur Castle Hotel. Expansion effort in the eastern zone are advancing with projects like Dinosaur Planet.

QINGGUO LANE HISTORIC CONSERVATION AREA

Qingguo Lane is among the first historic conservation areas in Jiangsu Province. Adjacent to the Grand Canal---a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site---it features a rich collection of traditional architecture from the Ming, Qing and Republican periods,serving as a living museum of Jiangnan residential design.

The local saying,"Qingguo Lane embodies half of Changzhou's history," captures its role as the birthplace of over 100 Jinshi scholars (imperial scholars) and eminent figures, including Tang Jingchuan, Yun Nantian, Qu Qiubai, Zhang Tailei, Shi Liang, Zhao Yuan- ren, Zhou Youguang,Sheng Xuanhuai, and Liu Guojun. Nicknamed the“First Lane of Jiangnan Literati,” it stands as a microcosm of China's intellectual and cultural legacies.

TIANNING ATTRACTIONS

Famous attractions in Tianning include Tianning Temple, Hongmel Park and Dongpo Park. As a highlight, Tianning Templ----founded in the Tang Dynasty---is renowned as the"First Monastery of Southeast China” and stands among the four great Zen Buddhist monasteries in China. Its centerpiece, Tianning Pagoda (also called the “Divine Land Grand Buddha Pagoda”), soars to 153.79 meters---the tallest pagoda in China.

Dongpo Park honors Su Dongpo, a literary master of the Northern Song Dynasty, commemorating his 14 visits to Changzhou. He spent his final years at Vine Flower Hall, and his verse---"Lingering here, reluctant to leave, I adore this land of noble gentlemen"---etches his deep affection for Changzhou’s culture and the noble spirit of its people into history.

MOUNT MOUSHAN TOURIST RESORT, JINTAN

Nestled in Jintan District, Mount Maoshan---the birthplace of the Shangqing Taoist School---is celebrated as the "First Blessed Land and Eighth Divine Grotto” in Taoist tradition. Iconic attractions include Oriental Salt Lake City, Maoshan Forest World, Floral Wonderland, Golden Ox Cave, No.1 Farm & Playland, and picturesque villages such as Xiangu Village and Shangruan Village.

CHANGZHOU CUISINE

Steeped in Jiangnan' s canal heritage and millennia of scholarly culture, Changzhou cuisine embodies the philosophy of "Daring to Lead the World in Freshness”. Its culinary landscape ranges from rustic farmhouse dishes to refined banquets and celebrity-favored recipes. Whether along backstreets or beside bridges over flowing water, the authentic taste of Jiangnan is never far away. Designated a"Black Pearl Restaurant Guide" city, Changzhou stands out as a premier destination for savoring the region's time-honored, heartwarming flavors.

Local specialties include Tianmu Lake fish head casserole, fried rice with dried radish, rice wine-braised pork, silver-thread noodles, crispy bean paste lard rolls. tofu soup with sesame cakes, stir-fried celery, sautéed crystal shrimp, sweet osmanthus taro, and red-soup thin tofu sheets.
