Changzhou Benniu International Airport recorded a steady rise in passenger traffic and cargo volume in the first quarter of 2025, reflecting sustained recovery in regional air travel demand.
Passenger traffic growth
The airport handled 1.139 million passengers during the period, a 7.7 percent year-on-year increase. Popular travel routes remained dominant, with Shenzhen, Chengdu, and Guangzhou emerging as the top three destinations. Other popular domestic routes included Shenyang, Kunming, Harbin, Chongqing, Xiamen, and Xi’an, highlighting travelers' dual preference for business hubs and leisure hotspots.
Demand for seasonal tourism also saw strong growth, particularly for snow destinations and warm winter getaways, contributing to the overall increase in passenger numbers.
Expanded summer & international flight schedule
Beginning March 30, the airport implemented its summer flight schedule, adding new domestic routes to Lhasa, Lijiang, Mangshi, Yibin, and Luzhou. Mid-season expansions will include new services to Hong Kong and Hanoi (Vietnam), strengthening the airport's role as a dual-purpose (business and tourism) hub and catering to growing demand for diversified air travel.
Cargo operations & record performance
Cargo and mail volume reached 4,753 tonnes, up 6.84 percent year-on-year, driven by continued expansion in poultry shipments, promotional policies for fresh goods during the Spring Festival, and optimized capacity management.
The airport has been improving cold-chain logistics efficiency, enhancing green channel services, and introducing last-mile delivery cooperation with Huolala (Lalamove). On March 16, the airport set a new single-flight record for international bellyhold cargo, handling 5.26 tonnes.
