Changzhou offers up to ¥7,000 per NEV for individual purchases

Changzhou has streamlined its car purchase subsidy scheme for 2026, cutting application requirements and improving processing efficiency, the Bureau of Commerce said on March 31.

Under the revised process, applicants only need to upload two documents — a purchase invoice and a vehicle registration certificate — through the China Merchants Bank app to apply for the subsidy.

Previously, applicants were required to submit multiple materials, including ID, vehicle licence and bank details, a process that added complexity and slowed approvals. The new system handles identity verification and data checks through backend integration, removing the need for most manual submissions.

The changes reduce the application to two core documents, making the process faster and more user-friendly.

The move is part of broader efforts by the city to boost auto consumption and improve public services. Since the subsidy program was launched on February 13, applications have increased steadily.

As of March 29, a total of 6,081 applications had been filed, including 1,803 for petrol vehicles and 4,278 for new energy vehicles (NEVs). Subsidies of about 22.75 million yuan have been allocated, generating nearly 920 million yuan in vehicle sales.

In line with provincial guidelines, Changzhou has also raised subsidies for NEV purchases. Since March 21, individual buyers can receive up to 7,000 yuan per vehicle.

The subsidies can be combined with promotional offers from carmakers, further reducing purchase costs for consumers.
