Changzhou has earned national recognition for its grassroots agricultural training programs with seven local Farmer Field Schools (FFS) recently listed in the second batch of high-quality county-level FFS by the Central Agricultural Broadcasting and Television School (CABTS). The newly designated FFS sites are distributed across Liyang (1), Jintan (2), Wujin (2), and Xinbei (2), supporting key agricultural sectors such as fruit, vegetable, tea, and rice-wheat cultivation—reflecting Changzhou’s diverse and thriving farming industry.
A Farmer Field School is a participatory, field-based training program where farmers, herders, and fishermen meet regularly under the guidance of trained facilitators. These schools emphasize practical, locally adapted solutions through hands-on experimentation, strengthening participants’ ability to analyze challenges and make informed decisions. FFS programs play a vital role in cultivating a new generation of skilled agricultural workers.
Moving forward, Changzhou’s authorities will continue expanding and improving the FFS network through policy support, funding initiatives, and technical training. By enhancing farmers’ skills in modern agricultural practices, these schools not only serve as practical training grounds but also drive industrial upgrading and rural innovation. This achievement reinforces Changzhou’s commitment to sustainable agricultural development and the long-term growth of its rural economy.
