On April 23, Zhou Wei, deputy secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee and mayor of Changzhou, met with H.E. Robert Lee, Fijian ambassador to China, and Nauludole Mataitini, high chief of Fiji’s Rewa Province, at the Municipal Administrative Center. The two sides exchanged views on enhancing friendship and deepening cooperation.
Zhou extended a warm welcome to the delegation and briefed them on Changzhou’s socio-economic development. He noted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Fiji in 1975, bilateral relations have maintained sound and steady growth, creating a favorable environment for local-level cooperation. In recent years, economic and trade exchanges between Changzhou and Fiji have expanded steadily.
Zhou expressed hopes that both sides would fully implement the important common understandings reached by the leaders of China and Fiji, explore further cooperation opportunities in new energy, construction and operation of international industrial parks, tourism, and other fields, expand people-to-people exchanges, and strengthen youth interactions to leverage complementary strengths and achieve mutual benefit. He emphasized that Changzhou is ready to contribute to the advancement of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Fiji.
Ambassador Lee spoke highly of Changzhou’s socio-economic achievements. He stated that Fiji boasts abundant natural and cultural resources, with particularly rich solar energy potential. Currently, Fiji is accelerating its green energy transition and sustainable development, while Changzhou possesses strong technical expertise and mature solutions in the new energy sector, making wide-ranging cooperation highly promising. He also expressed interest in deepening collaboration with Changzhou in areas including agriculture, fisheries, culture, and tourism to deliver more tangible outcomes.
The meeting was attended by Liu Jiandong, deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Province, and Pan Dongling, vice mayor of Changzhou.
