On June 30, Zhou Wei, deputy secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee and mayor of Changzhou Municipal People’s Government, met with Okada Masaru, consul general of Japan in Shanghai, and his delegation to discuss strengthening exchanges and deepening cooperation.
Mayor Zhou extended a warm welcome to Consul General Okada. Noting Changzhou's role as a key central city in the Yangtze River Delta region, he highlighted the city's active participation in regional integration and commitment to high-level opening-up. Changzhou has emerged as one of the most concentrated hubs for Japanese investment in the Delta region, enjoying long-standing, stable collaboration in sectors including new energy, automotive components, advanced equipment manufacturing, and new materials.
The mayor expressed hope for expanded economic and trade relations that would attract more high-quality Japanese enterprises to invest and expand operations in Changzhou, while exploring additional cooperation opportunities in cultural and tourism sectors. He reaffirmed Changzhou's commitment to maintaining world-class business conditions and providing Japanese enterprises and citizens with safe, comfortable living and working environments to jointly pursue new development opportunities.
Consul General Okada acknowledged the longstanding productive economic, trade and cultural exchanges between Japan and Changzhou. He praised Changzhou's robust industrial foundation and strong investment appeal, noting its status as a preferred destination for Japanese businesses. The consulate general pledged to serve as a bridge enhancing Japan-Changzhou cooperation in industrial development, trade, technology, friendship-city relations and green transformation.
The consul general also expressed hope for Changzhou's continued support of Japanese businesses and expatriates to further develop the mutually beneficial relationship.
The meeting was also attended by Vice Mayor Pan Dongling and Secretary-General Zhou Chengtao.
