The vibrant celebrations of this year's Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu, have brought a fresh wave of energy to Changzhou's consumer market, with the city launching a series of festive promotions and cultural activities to stimulate spending. From May 31 to June 18, nearly 120 themed events under the slogan "Enjoy Duanwu and Shop in Changzhou" have been rolled out citywide, covering diverse categories including retail shopping, dining experiences, cultural tourism, and family-friendly entertainment, creating a rich consumption landscape for both residents and visitors.
To further boost purchasing power, digital consumption incentives have taken center stage. The Liyang Bureau of Commerce has teamed up with UnionPay to distribute dining vouchers worth up to 300 yuan, while leading retailers such as JD Wuxing Electric, Suning, and Yuexing Home have joined forces to offer substantial discounts, including tiered rebates on energy-efficient appliances and exclusive supplier promotions, with total savings reaching up to 50 percent. Local financial institutions have also contributed by releasing special consumption coupons, enhancing affordability for shoppers.
Changzhou’s major commercial districts have transformed into lively festival venues, each offering unique immersive experiences. MixC Changzhou is commemorating its first anniversary by partnering with Disney China to host a 30th-anniversary Toy Story exhibition and a "Tasty Party" food market featuring over 40 regional delicacies. Meanwhile, Wuyue Plaza in Wujin is running a "Duanwu Summer Adventure" campaign, rewarding high-spending customers with premium prizes like DJI Osmo Pocket 3 cameras, alongside cultural activities such as traditional flower vendor parades and electronic music parties. In Liyang, Wuyue Plaza has launched a three-day celebration combining Dragon Boat Festival traditions with Children’s Day festivities, including a massive community cake-sharing event and a luminous night concert.
Traditional festival foods have also seen soaring demand, with local time-honored brands benefiting most. Ruihetai, a century-old Changzhou specialty food producer, has sold over 100,000 zongzi (rice dumplings)—particularly its signature varieties like red bean, pork with salted egg yolk, and peanut-lotus seed—alongside more than 350,000 salted duck eggs in just one week. Meanwhile, Taifu Department Store has introduced its inaugural "Dingsheng Festival," offering academic blessing gift bags to students during the holiday period.
According to officials from the Changzhou Bureau of Commerce, this year's Dragon Boat Festival promotions, following the "Festival + Consumption" model, have successfully integrated commercial resources across the city. The campaign not only meets residents' holiday shopping demands but also strengthens business confidence, further stimulating the vitality of Changzhou’s consumer market. For ongoing event updates and exclusive offers, citizens are encouraged to follow the official social media accounts of their local shopping districts.
