On March 27, Wang Jianfeng, Secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee, Mayor Zhou Wei, along with other leaders from the four municipal leadership teams, participated in a voluntary tree-planting activity at the green space project site located west of Hengtanghe West Road and east of Zilin Road.
The municipal leaders inspected the project planning and construction progress, gaining detailed insights into the green space layout, selection of seedlings, and follow-up maintenance work. Subsequently, they worked alongside government officials and staff, wielding shovels to dig soil, positioning and firming seedlings, and watering them, working together to plant trees such as camphor, plum blossom, and red maple.
The project is adjacent to Zijing Park and Hengtanghe Wetland Park and falls within the riverside green space area. It spans a total length of 140 meters and covers an area of 11,788 square meters. Once the vegetation matures, it will form a high-quality riverside green space that combines ecological value with recreational functions.
Around Arbor Day this year, Changzhou launched 29 diverse themed activities centered on caring for and promoting greenery, utilizing 28 "Internet+ voluntary tree-planting" service points across the city. From city parks to pocket parks, from community green spaces to vacant lots, Changzhou is accelerating the development of a citywide green space system, continuously guiding the public to plant, protect, and cherish greenery.
In recent years, Changzhou has taken a coordinated approach to the systematic management of mountains, waters, forests, farmlands, lakes, and grasslands. It has deepened initiatives such as enhancing the quality of parks and green spaces, constructing ecological green corridors, and creating pocket parks, while steadily advancing urban and rural environmental improvements and the greening of vacant plots. By the end of 2025, the city's built-up area had a total green space of 11,637.87 hectares, achieving a green space ratio of 41.02%. Urban park green space covered 3,434.87 hectares, with per capita park green space in urban areas reaching 15.93 square meters, making vibrant greenery the most defining characteristic of Changzhou's urban landscape.
