On February 25, the annual Changzhou-Shanghai Trade, Investment and Innovation Cooperation Week officially commenced in Shanghai. That evening, the Changzhou Municipal Government hosted the 2026 Chinese New Year Reception for Foreign Consulates-general in Shanghai. Mayor Zhou Wei, on behalf of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee and the Municipal People’s Government, joined diplomats from more than 20 countries to strengthen ties and explore future cooperation.
Mayor Zhou expressed sincere appreciation for the longstanding support of the consulates for Changzhou’s development. “Bosom friends make distance disappear,” he said, noting that the consulates serve as an important bridge between Changzhou and the world, giving international partners a clearer view of the city’s progress.
Zhou highlighted Changzhou’s ongoing transformation, citing its expanding industrial base, dynamic innovation ecosystem, growing urban influence, and deepening global engagement. The city remains committed to its goal of becoming an international hub of smart manufacturing and an innovation powerhouse in the Yangtze River Delta, and to building a modern, livable city welcoming to both residents and businesses.
As Changzhou enters a critical stage of high-quality development, Zhou reaffirmed the city’s commitment to deeper cooperation with global partners. He proposed taking the Year of the Horse as an opportunity to further strengthen ties and pursue shared prosperity.
The event also featured a presentation on Changzhou’s tourism and cultural offerings. Vice Mayors Jiang Pengju and Pan Dongling attended the reception.
