The Jiangsu Provincial Department of Finance and the Provincial Department of Science and Technology recently released the third batch of major innovation platforms supported by the 2025 Provincial Special Fund for Basic Research. In this announcement, the Advanced Power and Energy Storage Battery Proof-of-Concept Center (PoCC), led by the Yangtze River Delta Physics Research Center, was officially designated a provincial-level PoCC, making it the only institution in Changzhou to receive this recognition.

Established in August 2018 through deep collaboration between the Institute of Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Liyang Municipal Government, the Yangtze River Delta Physics Research Center operates as a technology-driven innovation enterprise supporting regional development. The center focuses on advancing technology transfer and commercialization while pursuing cutting-edge scientific research, with particular emphasis on solving key technical challenges faced by enterprises across East China in fields such as energy, information technology, advanced instrumentation, and intelligent equipment.

Leveraging decades of research expertise from the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the innovation ecosystem of Liyang’s science and technology park, the center has built four major public technology service platforms covering energy storage and power batteries, photovoltaic solar cells, advanced metallic materials and devices, and medical applied physics.

The center has already brought in twelve high-level research projects led by renowned scientists, including work on flexible thin-film solar cells, plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) equipment, and high-performance aqueous lithium-ion battery systems. These efforts have pushed forward technological frontiers and supported the incubation of multiple high-tech enterprises, contributing directly to the transformation and upgrading of the energy sector.

The designation underscores Changzhou’s rising profile in scientific and technological innovation, particularly in advanced energy technologies. Becoming a provincial-level PoCC will further strengthen the center’s ability to bridge fundamental research with industrial application, accelerating the commercialization of breakthrough technologies in Jiangsu and beyond.
