Changzhou’s cultural and tourism sector shone during the recent eight-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, delivering impressive results across attractions, events, and visitor engagement.
According to travel platform Ctrip, visitors under 35 accounted for more than half of all tourists to the city. Changzhou ranked first in Jiangsu province for total spending at scenic attractions and second for per-capita tourism expenditure.
As one of the most dynamic cultural and tourism destinations in the Yangtze River Delta, Changzhou continues to win over travelers with its blend of innovation, rich heritage, and warm hospitality — showcasing both youthful energy and deep cultural roots.
Thriving attractions and creative holiday offerings
Major sites across the city launched fresh experiences throughout the holidays. The China Dinosaur Park introduced immersive programs such as Journey Through Jurassic, 6D Secret Adventure, and Electronic Music Party, earning second place on Amap’s list of “Top Five Family Travel Destinations in China” — the only attraction in Jiangsu to make the ranking.
Other destinations also reported strong performance. The Oriental Saltlake Resort unveiled a new Spirit Pet Park, fueling a 70% year-on-year surge in visitors and a 25% increase in revenue, with hotels running at full capacity. Nanshan Bamboo Sea hosted a Pet Climbing Challenge, while Maoshan Forest World launched its Red Panda Manor, doubling last year’s visitor numbers.
Events like Dino Water Town’s “Gourmet Fair of Jiangsu’s 13 Cities” and Tianning Temple Scenic Area’s “Relaxed Life Festival” became social-media sensations that blended culture and fashion. Seasonal activities, including the Autumn Fishing Festival at Tianmu Lake and the Harvest Market in Fujia Village, drew large crowds and unleashed strong consumption potential.
Music festivals drive record attendance and cultural momentum
The 11th Taihu Bay Music Festival attracted nearly 140,000 fans over four days — 70% from outside Jiangsu and almost 90% under 35 — making it the highest-grossing Chinese-language music festival of the season. The event reaffirmed Changzhou’s reputation as a leading “music city” and a powerhouse of the regional cultural economy.
Beyond the headline act, a string of performances created a citywide cultural wave: the garden-set comedy “The Pearl Tower” in Qingguo Lane, the All-Star Concert in Liyang, the Jiangsu-Chic Music Festival at Yancheng Spring and Autumn Amusement Park, the Super Wild Concert at the Cultural Plaza, the National Day Performance Season in Qingguo Lane, and the Starry Music Concert at Wujin’s T-Park cultural block — together forming a vibrant, genre-spanning music landscape across Changzhou.
Cultural experiences enrich the holiday spirit
During the eight-day holiday, more than 100 themed cultural events took place citywide. Public museums and cultural venues welcomed over 540,000 visitors. Highlights included the Changzhou Museum’s “Mid-Autumn at the Museum” and “Golden Autumn Concert,” the Jinyuan Garden’s immersive Jiangnan-style exhibition, and a themed cat café at the Former Residence of Lyu Simian.
Notably, the memorial halls of Qu Qiubai, Yun Daiying, and Zhang Tailei — early CPC revolutionaries known collectively as the “Three Heroes of Changzhou” — received nearly 70,000 visitors over the holiday period.
“Champbow” mascot and digital engagement extend Changzhou’s reach
Changzhou also creatively leveraged the popularity of its Jiangsu Football City League brand, promoting its mascot “Champbow” both online and offline. The character appeared at major events such as the Taihu Bay Music Festival, the Super Wild Concert, and Jiangsu Football City League match days.
According to Douyin, the hashtag #TravelWithChampbow exceeded 120 million views, with total exposure surpassing 700 million impressions. Meanwhile, China Central Television’s flagship news program Xinwen Lianbo featured Changzhou three times over two days, highlighting its innovation in integrating culture and tourism and significantly boosting its national profile.
This holiday season, Changzhou not only achieved record-breaking visitor numbers but also earned wide acclaim from travelers nationwide. With its youthful energy, cultural depth, and thoughtful hospitality, the city continues to redefine what a modern tourism destination can be — and to embody the enduring charm of China’s Dragon City.
