On July 24, the Changzhou Municipal Bureau of Statistics released the city's national economic performance for the first half of the year. According to the unified accounting results of gross domestic product (GDP), Changzhou's GDP reached 535.41 billion yuan from January to June, representing a year -on‑year growth of 5.4% at constant prices.

In terms of industries, the value added of agriculture was 6.26 billion yuan, up 3.0%; that of manufacturing was 253.96 billion yuan, increased by 4.4%; and that of the services sector was 275.20 billion yuan, a rise of 6.4%.

The consumer market continued to expand. In the first half of the year, the city's total retail sales of consumer goods reached 144.31 billion yuan, up 2.8% year on year. Spending on basic daily necessities remained stable, retail sales of upgraded consumer goods maintained good growth momentum, and automobile consumption grew steadily.

Foreign trade maintained steady growth. In the first half of the year, the city's total foreign trade reached 189.42 billion yuan, up 5.9% year on year; among which exports totaled 157.90 billion yuan, growing by 8.5%. By trade mode, the imports and exports of general trade rose by 4.5%, accounting for 84.1% of the total. By trade entity, private enterprises played a significant supporting role, with their imports and exports increasing by 6.3% and comprising 62.9% of the city's total.

Residents' income grew steadily. In the first half of the year, the disposable income of urban and rural residents per capita in the city reached 36,344 yuan, up 4.4% year on year. Among this, the disposable income of urban residents per capita registered 41,327 yuan, up 4.0%, while that of rural residents was 23,899 yuan, up 5.5%. The income gap between urban and rural residents further narrowed by 0.024 percentage points, as the per capita income ratio of urban to rural residents stood at 1.729:1.

Overall, the major economic indicators registered steady growth in the first half of the year, and the economy in Changzhou continued to show a positive momentum of steady progress.
