On January 30, Jiangsu Niu Electric Technology Co., Ltd. (NIU Technologies) signed a new project at the Changzhou West Taihu Lake Science and Technology Industrial Zone, adding planned annual capacity of 1.5 million units of high-end smart two-wheeled electric vehicles.
The signing ceremony was attended by Li Yinan, founder of NIU Technologies, and Li Yan, chairman and chief executive officer of the company, along with Wang Jianfeng, secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee, and Zhou Wei, mayor of Changzhou.
Wang Jianfeng and Zhou Wei expressed appreciation for NIU Technologies’ long-standing presence in Changzhou and its contribution to the city’s high-quality development in the new energy sector. Wang said that, during the upcoming Five-Year Plan period, Changzhou will continue to strengthen its role as an international hub for intelligent manufacturing and an innovation highland in the Yangtze River Delta, with a particular focus on building a trillion-yuan new energy industry under the city’s “10+28” industrial framework.
Wang noted that NIU Technologies is a globally recognized brand in lithium-ion battery powered electric two-wheelers and has maintained close cooperation with Changzhou for more than a decade. The newly signed project, he said, is highly aligned with the city’s industrial development strategy, and the municipal government will continue to provide comprehensive support to ensure the project’s early construction and operation.
Li Yan said that Changzhou has long been an important strategic partner for NIU Technologies, and the West Taihu base represents a key part of the company’s global manufacturing footprint. He highlighted the city’s well-established industrial supply chain, strong innovation ecosystem and efficient public services as providing solid support for the company’s sustained growth. The latest capacity expansion, he said, reflects both the positive outcomes of past cooperation and the company’s confidence in future market prospects.
Looking ahead, NIU Technologies will further leverage Changzhou’s industrial strengths and locational advantages to accelerate product innovation and capacity expansion, consolidate its leading position in the global high-end smart urban mobility market, and contribute to the city’s high-quality development.
Founded in 2014, NIU Technologies is a global provider of smart urban mobility solutions. The company pioneered the category of intelligent two-wheeled electric vehicles and has since developed a diversified product portfolio covering electric bicycles, electric motorcycles, e-mopeds and electric kick scooters. NIU Technologies was listed on the Nasdaq in 2018.
The newly signed second NIU base will be developed into a modern two-wheeled electric vehicle manufacturing hub, featuring two high-speed flexible production lines for electric motorcycles and four automated plastic painting lines. Once fully operational, NIU Technologies’ West Taihu base is expected to reach an annual production capacity of 3 million two-wheeled vehicles, with total output value projected to exceed RMB 10 billion.
