China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has announced the preliminary list of the first batch of key national pilot-scale testing platforms, with three platforms from Changzhou being selected. This recognition highlights Changzhou's growing capabilities in addressing core technologies and promoting industrial innovation.

The selected platforms include the Jiangsu Graphene New Materials Pilot Platform in Wujin district, the Carbon Fiber and Composite Materials Pilot Platform in Xinbei district, and the Jiangsu Advanced Energy Storage Materials Pilot Platform in Xinbei. These platforms embody strategic efforts to bridge the gap between research and industrial application, accelerating the transformation of scientific breakthroughs into commercially viable technologies.

The Jiangsu Graphene New Materials Pilot Platform focuses on solving critical challenges in graphene industrialization. By integrating innovation resources, it speeds up pilot-scale development and enhances industrial applications. The platform features a complete production chain covering four major areas: raw graphene material synthesis, thermal applications, electronic applications, and composite materials.

Supported by the Yangtze River Delta Carbon Fiber and Composites Technology Innovation Center, the Carbon Fiber and Composite Materials Pilot Platform aims for breakthroughs in advanced carbon fiber technologies, high-performance multifunctional composites, lightweight equipment development, heterogeneous materials integration, and full-lifecycle evaluation and recycling. The platform houses specialized facilities for engineering, aerospace, and green composites applications. It has also established collaborative ventures including the Joint Research Center for Aerospace Composite Technology and the International Laboratory for Advanced Materials Science and Technology, along with shared infrastructure for pilot production and testing services - significantly narrowing the gap between research and commercial deployment.

At the forefront of energy innovation, the Jiangsu Advanced Energy Storage Materials Pilot Platform has already developed a pilot facility for high-surface-area porous activated carbon, with production capacity reaching thousands of tons annually and generating nearly 100 million yuan in sales in 2024. For hydrogen energy applications, the platform has constructed a near-room-temperature solid-state hydrogen storage pilot line capable of kilogram to hundred-kilogram scale production, with plans to expand to full industrial-scale output of 500 to 800 tons per year. The platform has also set up dedicated R&D and production lines for advanced soft magnetic materials and related core technologies.
