The seventh Changzhou College Student Entrepreneurship Competition has attracted a record 808 projects from across China and abroad. For the first time since its launch in 2013, the competition expanded to central China, with the regional round recently held at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) Science Park in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province.
Focusing on key sectors within Changzhou’s “1028” industrial system—such as new energy, advanced equipment manufacturing, and artificial intelligence—the Central China division brought together 241 projects from 55 universities. More than 1,000 young innovators took part, with 12 outstanding projects advancing to the divisional final. First and second prize winners will move on to compete in the national grand final.
This year’s competition is divided into three regional divisions: East China (328 projects), Northeast China (239 projects), and Central China (241 projects). Participating institutions include leading Chinese universities such as Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Xi’an Jiaotong University. Prestigious international institutions such as Stanford University, Cornell University and the University of Tokyo have also submitted entries.
Wu Yin, deputy director of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee’s Organization Department, said the competition is a key initiative to support the city’s innovation-driven and talent-first development strategies.
“To attract more high-calibre young talent and high-quality projects to Changzhou, we’ve put in place a comprehensive policy matrix that includes entrepreneurship training, incubation subsidies, mentorship, and venture capital support,” Wu said. “Participants can also access strong housing and living support policies, including talent apartments, rental and living allowances, and home purchase subsidies.”
