On February 26, the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee and the Municipal People’s Government held a New Year reception on the banks of the Huangpu River as part of the 2026 Changzhou–Shanghai Trade, Investment and Innovation Cooperation Week, bringing together nearly 200 representatives of leading Shanghai-based enterprises and institutions.

Lu Gang, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission, and Cui Wei, director of the Jiangsu Provincial Government Office in Shanghai, attended the event. Wang Jianfeng, secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee, delivered remarks, and Mayor Zhou Wei presided over the event.

This year marks the 20th consecutive Changzhou–Shanghai Cooperation Week. Over the past two decades, the two cities have deepened integration across sectors and advanced coordinated development, delivering tangible results.

On behalf of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee and the Municipal Government, Wang welcomed the guests and extended New Year greetings to those who have long supported the city’s development. He described Shanghai as a pioneer of China’s reform and opening-up and a benchmark for high-quality development, noting its strong momentum in building an international center for economy, finance, trade, shipping and sci-tech innovation. He said Shanghai continues to play a leading role in advancing the Yangtze River Delta toward a globally competitive city cluster.

Changzhou, an important hub city in the Yangtze River Delta, has in recent years strengthened alignment with Shanghai’s metropolitan development. Cooperation between the two cities has expanded from industrial innovation and regional coordination to trade links and cultural exchanges, further enhancing connectivity and mutual benefit.

Looking ahead to the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030), Wang said Changzhou has defined its development goal of becoming an international hub of smart manufacturing and an innovation powerhouse in the Yangtze River Delta. The city is accelerating the development of a modern industrial system, strengthening the real economy and enhancing innovation-driven growth.

He added that Changzhou is actively seizing opportunities arising from the expansion of Shanghai’s international sci-tech innovation center initiative across the Yangtze River Delta. Cooperation between the two cities, he said, enjoys solid foundations and broad prospects.

After outlining progress in industrial collaboration, technological integration and consumption linkages, Wang said Changzhou would further integrate into the development of the unified national market and continue improving a market-oriented, law-based and internationally aligned business environment, ensuring that enterprises can invest and operate with confidence. He invited more Shanghai-based enterprises and talent to deepen their presence in Changzhou and jointly advance integrated development in the Yangtze River Delta.

Representatives from Arlanxeo China, Golden Eagle Group, Sieyuan Electric Co., the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai and the German Chamber of Commerce in China addressed the event. They said Changzhou’s open business environment and strong manufacturing base have supported steady growth and expressed willingness to expand cooperation.

With a solid industrial foundation, diverse application scenarios and an open innovation ecosystem, Changzhou has become an important base for the application and commercialization of artificial intelligence technologies. The city released dedicated AI talent policies and cooperation opportunities at the event, inviting domestic and overseas investors to deepen collaboration in the sector.

During the cooperation week, 28 projects are expected to be signed, with total planned investment exceeding 19.4 billion yuan.
