As spring reaches its vibrant peak, the 16th Changzhou Peony Festival opened at Dongpo Park on March 29, inviting visitors to a floral and cultural spectacle running through April 13.
Under the theme “Peonies in Prosperity, Elegance of Dongpo,” this year’s festival harmonizes horticultural splendor with classic Chinese artistry. The park’s 0.67-hectare peony garden dazzles with over 4,000 blooms across 70 varieties, spanning nine color categories and ten flower forms.
Park officials note that cooler weather this year has delayed blooming. While early varieties like “Phoenix White” and “Spring Willow” are already on display, crowd favorites such as “Snowy Pagoda” and “Blue Sapphire” will reach peak brilliance during the Qingming holiday (April 4–6), offering ideal viewing.
The festival transforms the park into a living canvas, blending peonies’ “national beauty and heavenly fragrance” with the legacy of Su Dongpo (1037-1101), the park’s namesake scholar. Activities span three interactive themes: “Park + Garden Aesthetics,” “Park + Refined Living,” and “Park + Creative Bazaar.”
With 11 curated events—from flower appreciation and tea ceremonies to guqin (ancient zither) performances—visitors can immerse themselves in the allure of peonies and the grace of literati culture.
