Changzhou's industrial sector continued to gain momentum in the first seven months of the year, with both output and efficiency improving, according to the Changzhou Municipal Bureau of Statistics.
From January to July, industrial enterprises above designated size in Changzhou generated 1.02 trillion yuan in industrial output, up 6.9% year on year. The growth rate was 0.5 percentage point higher than in the first half of the year and 1.2 percentage points higher than in the first quarter. Industrial value added grew 6.2% year on year, ranking fourth among cities in Jiangsu and second in southern Jiangsu. Growth accelerated further in July, when industrial value added rose 8.3% year on year, the second-highest rate in the province.
New energy manufacturing remained a major growth driver. Output in Changzhou's new energy manufacturing sector rose 9.8% year on year in the first seven months, contributing 5.3 percentage points to the overall growth of industrial output. The power and energy storage battery sector saw particularly strong growth, with output up 39% and accounting for 52.7% of the increase in total industrial output. Changzhou produced 501,000 new energy vehicles during the period, an increase of 12.1% year on year. Monthly output exceeded 90,000 vehicles for the second consecutive month.
The electronics industry also expanded rapidly. The growth of “AI+” applications has created new demand for electronics, helping drive expansion and upgrading in the sector. From January to July, electronics manufacturers above designated size generated 85.7 billion yuan in output, up 22.4% year on year and contributing 1.6 percentage points to overall industrial growth. Production of integrated circuits, electronic components and discrete semiconductor devices rose 175.2%, 54.6% and 39%, respectively.
