A major international investment has landed in Changzhou’s Wujin High-Tech Zone, with Spain’s Applus+ Group formally signing an agreement to establish a high-performance lightweight materials testing centre. Deputy Mayor Pan Dongling met with Joseph, the company’s China General Manager, during the signing.
Applus+, headquartered in Barcelona, is one of the world’s leading providers of testing, inspection and certification services. Operating in more than 70 countries, the company entered the Chinese market in 2007. In January this year, it acquired Dejian (Jiangsu) Testing Technology Co., located in the Wujin High-Tech Zone, laying the groundwork for this latest expansion.
The new project carries a total investment of $30 million and will build advanced laboratories specializing in the testing, inspection and certification of high-performance lightweight materials. Its services will span sectors such as new energy, low-altitude aviation, humanoid robotics and aerospace, while also developing a comprehensive database for the composites industry. Once fully operational, the centre is expected to generate an annual output of around 150 million yuan.
Changzhou’s fast-growing new energy vehicle sector has accelerated the clustering of lightweight component manufacturers, while the city’s strong industrial base in new materials provides fertile ground for Applus+ services. Local officials said Wujin district will continue to refine its business environment, offering streamlined government services to help the company expand and strengthen its foothold in China—driving forward mutual benefit and shared growth.
