Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released the assessment report on the 10-gigabit optical network pilot projects. Two projects from Changzhou, one in the Liyang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, and another in the Wujin National High-Tech Zone, have passed the acceptance review successfully.
Nationwide, a total of 136 projects have passed the review, which are based in three types of sites: residential communities, factories and industrial parks. In Jiangsu province alone, eight projects were selected, including two from Changzhou.
The 10-gigabit optical network represents the upgrade and evolution direction for the next-generation optical networks, and will be conducive to new industrialization. The pilot, launched in January last year, has focused on key application venues, to promote the deployment of new technologies -- 50G-PON ultra-broadband optical access, Wi-Fi 7, high-speed large-capacity transmission and the integration of optical network with AI.
The pilot results show that 10-gigabit optical networks are already supporting a range of applications and services, including cloud PCs, cloud gaming, industrial optical quality inspection, AI-powered ultra-HD video surveillance, model training and inference applications, and integrated sensing and communication. These achievements provide an important reference for future large-scale deployment.
Leveraging the insights gained from this pilot, Changzhou will further integrate 10-gigabit optical networks with AI and the Industrial Internet, solidifying the all-optical infrastructure that underpins high-quality growth in the digital economy.
