On July 26, Wang Jianfeng, secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee, along with Zhou Wei, deputy secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee and mayor of Changzhou, met with Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, president of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), and a delegation headed by Zhang Jun, president of the Chinese Badminton Association (CBA).
Representing the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee and the Municipal People’s Government, Wang and Zhou warmly welcomed the guests and expressed gratitude for the BWF’s and CBA’s ongoing guidance and support in organizing top-tier badminton events in the city. Wang emphasized that Changzhou is a city rich in cultural heritage and brimming with sporting vitality. He noted that Changzhou has hosted the China Masters and the China Open on an annual basis for 18 consecutive years, and that badminton enjoys a strong grassroots following in the city. With the VICTOR China Open 2025 hosted at the Changzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium (part of the BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournaments), Changzhou is committed to delivering a spectacular tournament with elevated standards and premium services for badminton fans worldwide. He expressed the hope that the BWF, CBA, and Changzhou would continue to deepen cooperation, bringing more highlevel badminton events to the city and enhancing residents’ sense of satisfaction and happiness.
Leeswadtrakul thanked Changzhou for its significant contributions to the current China Open and for providing an excellent environment for participants. She praised the city’s extensive experience in hosting badminton competitions and said she greatly appreciated Changzhou’s strong badminton culture and residents’ warm hospitality. She looks forward to further collaboration with the CBA and Changzhou to jointly promote the development of badminton.
Changzhou’s connection with badminton runs deep. From 2008 to 2017, it hosted the China Masters for ten consecutive years—a national record for consecutive hosting of an international toplevel individual sports event in the same city. In 2018, the BWF launched its new World Tour system, upgrading the China Open to a Super 1000 tournament. Changzhou has since secured hosting rights for two consecutive China Open cycles (2018–2022 and 2023–2026).
