The “Smart Changzhou, Bright Future” Young PhD Industry Salon, featuring a session on artificial intelligence, was held on August 15 at the ICC Baiyun New Town Youth Community. Guided by the Changzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC), the event was jointly organized by the the Office for Talent of the CPC Zhonglou District Committee, the CYLC Zhonglou District Committee and the Zhonglou District Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security. Young PhDs from local universities and companies gathered to exchange views on how AI can drive industrial development.

During the keynote session, Wang Cong, a PhD and professor at Jiangsu University of Technology, gave a presentation on “How AI Is Transforming the Real Economy.” Drawing on industry data and local cases, he explored the market potential and development pathways of industrial AI from the perspectives of emerging trends, application scenarios and industry prospects.

The following discussion focused on practical applications. Zhang Huajun, a PhD from Changzhou University, demonstrated how AI tools can be used to rapidly develop 3D simulation prototypes for robotic arms and drones. Zhang Chenyang, a PhD from Changzhou Institute of Technology, shared his experience in applying fully automated 3D reconstruction technology to complex low-altitude environments, including projects involving Zhonglou Bridge. The technology has helped replace conventional manual scanning.

Participants also discussed practical ways for small and medium-sized enterprises to adopt AI at lower cost, explored lightweight and readily deployable AI applications, and exchanged views on AI talent development.

The salon is part of the CYLC Changzhou Municipal Committee's ongoing efforts to promote AI training among young people and encourage wider adoption of AI technologies and skills.

The Young PhD Industry Salon is planned as a regular event, with each session focusing on a different field. By bringing together young researchers and industry professionals, the salon will provide a platform for exchanging ideas, connecting academic expertise with industry needs, and harnessing young talent to support Changzhou's smart manufacturing development.
