In 2023, Changzhou's foreign trade experienced a resilient performance, recording a total value of imports and exports at 318.36 billion yuan, marking a modest 1.3% decrease compared to the previous year. Despite the slight dip, Changzhou secured its position as the leading city in foreign trade among the five major players in the province, outperforming the provincial average. The city achieved exports valued at 249.83 billion yuan, with imports totaling 68.53 billion yuan.

Notably, in 2023, the exports of high-value-added products, including machinery and electronic goods, reached 155.95 billion yuan, and high-tech products hit 41.38 billion yuan. The export of the "new three" products—new energy vehicles (NEV), lithium-ion batteries, and solar products—reached 29.97 billion yuan, registering a commendable 12.3% growth. Particularly striking is the exponential growth in the export of lithium-ion batteries (36.5%) and NEVs (16535%), emerging as primary contributors to the overall export growth.

Emphasizing the significance of efficient customs clearance and delivery capabilities, a spokesperson from Changzhou Customs highlighted the critical role these factors play in enabling companies to occupy overseas markets. Currently, new energy enterprises are strategically targeting international markets, notably those participating in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), as well as markets in Europe and America. Customs authorities are directing their efforts towards supporting the development of high-tech industries by tailoring export services, facilitating international logistics, and fostering a secure and convenient customs ecosystem. The goal is to empower local enterprises to seize greater development opportunities in the global marketplace.

Additionally, in 2023, Changzhou witnessed an increase in general trade, accounting for 83% of the total foreign trade value, marking a 0.9% rise from the previous year. Among the major trading partners, trade with ASEAN countries experienced a growth of 4.3%, while trade with BRI countries increased by 5.5%. The scale of imports and exports by private enterprises in Changzhou expanded to 181.73 billion yuan for the year, reflecting a solid 2.7% growth.
