In recent days, outbound tourism has become hot in Changzhou. It is learned from the city’s five travel agents qualified for outbound tour operation that in 2014 nearly 60,000 Changzhou passengers have traveled abroad by the end of this October.

According to these travel agents, this year a very small proportion of tourists choose the United States as their destination, accounting for only 1% to 2%. Due to the long distance between China and the US, most of the local tourists are holding the perspective that ‘since it’s not easy to travel to the US, we must visit as many places as possible.’ Therefore most of the US travel programs take more than 10 days and cost at least 20,000 yuan, which turns away many ordinary customers.

From January to October, the Changzhou CITS (China International Travel Service) has organized 19,000 travelers abroad. Short-distance and low-cost tours to destinations like Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia are most popular. As the new US visa application policy for Chinese will be launched shortly, it will help boost the consumption of Chinese tourists in the US. However, specifications like to which group of people the new policy is applied, the permitted length of stay for each visit, and so on, are still to be further clarified.
