Local CPI up by 1.9% in the first half of this year

In the morning of July 14th, the Changzhou Municipal Price Bureau and the Changzhou Statistics Squad of State Statistics Bureau held a joint press conference on CPI. In the first half of 2017, the general consumption of consumer goods in Changzhou is above the national and provincial average.


It’s learned from the aquaculture stands of the Hehai Grocery Market that popular aquatic products have already shifted from river prawns to metapenaeus ensis. The price of river prawns has soared a lot since summer kicked in. Meanwhile, prices of pork and green vegetables have also increased by a small margin. The CPI trend is in line with the authorities’ predictions.


The local CPI grew by 1.9% in the first half of this year, 0.5% higher than the national average and 0.1% higher than the provincial average. All 8 major goods & service categories saw price hikes with the transportation and telecommunications categories witnessing the highest price growth of 4%.


Of the five major components of local daily food supply, meat & poultry, vegetables and eggs saw price decreases of 1.67%, 11.32% and 10.36% respectively whereas aquatic products and bean products saw price increases of 2.03% and 3.69% respectively.


In addition, the wheat yield per unit stood at 274.43 kg/mu, down by 8.18% while the output value per unit grew by 24.39% to RMB 602.3/mu. The per unit profit turned positive to RMB 17.91/mu.
