Update: Four new imported cases reported in Jiangsu

According to the officially released information from the Jiangsu Provincial Health Commission, between 00:00 and 24:00, April 2, four imported cases of COVID-19 were reported in Jiangsu, three of which were previously identified as asymptomatic carriers. As of this update, a total of 20 imported cases have been reported in the province, of which one patient has been discharged from the hospital.

Case 1, a resident in Jiangsu province, left London for Shanghai on March 16 and arrived at Pudong International Airport on the 17th after taking a connecting flight. Upon arrival, the person was shuttled to a designated quarantine site in Huai’an. Given the epidemiological, clinical, laboratory and chest CT findings, the person was diagnosed with COVID-19.

Case 2, a resident of Jiangsu, left Amsterdam for Nanjing on March 15 and arrived at Lukou International Airport the following day after taking a connecting flight in Guangzhou. Tested positive for coronavirus in Guangzhou, the person was sent to a designated hospital for medical observation right after arriving in Nanjing. Identified as a asymptomatic carrier on March 17, the person was later diagnosed with COVID-19 based on the chest CT findings.

Case 3, a French national, left Nantes for Shanghai on March 18 and arrived at Pudong International Airport on the 19th after taking a connecting flight. The person was shuttled to a designated quarantine venue in Nanjing upon arrival. Tested positive for coronavirus on March 25, the person was sent to a designated hospital for medical observation and was identified as a asymptomatic carrier. Given the CT imaging changes, the person was later diagnosed with COVID-19.

Case 4, a resident in Liaoning province, left Paris for Nanjing on March 28 and arrived at Lukong International Airport on the same day. The person was shuttled to a designated quarantine venue in Nanjing upon arrival. Tested positive for coronavirus on March 29, the person was sent to a designated hospital for medical observation. Identified as a asymptomatic carrier on March 30, the person was later diagnosed with COVID-19 based on the CT findings.

As of the 2nd of April, no new confirmed local cases were reported in Jiangsu. All the previously confirmed 631 local cases in the province have been discharged from hospital.

As of this update, a total of 42 asymptomatic cases, including 26 imported cases, are still under medical observation in designated hospitals.

Of the traced 13,411 close contacts, 12,764 have been discharged from medical observation, while 647 are still under observation.

Experts note that at the current stage of pandemic control, curbing imported cases has become the top priority which requires joint efforts in a coordinated manner. Concrete measures for targeted control should be adopted while orderly promoting the resumption of production and life.  

To further reduce the risk of imported cases, starting from March 23, all Jiangsu-bound travelers will be shuttled to designated venues at their destinations for the mandatory 14-day quarantine. Passengers must comply with the regulations for pandemic control, truthfully declare their travel history and health condition, and report to their employers and residential communities prior to the return journey. Those who visited or returned to Jiangsu from abroad should seek treatment at designated fever clinics if symptoms such as fever or cough occurs, and report their whereabouts during the past two weeks.

Experts urge the public to take necessary health precautions and maintain healthy hygiene habits such as wearing a mask when going out, washing your hands frequently, covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and keeping your room well-ventilated. Avoid crowded places so as to reduce your risk of infection.

Different population groups should follow the precautionary recommendations and tips included in the Guidelines on the Use of Masks, and properly wear a face mask under various circumstances. This is not only protecting yourself, but also being supportive to others.
