Recently, Liyang was awarded as "Town of Tai Chi for Seniors" by the Jiangsu Veteran’s Sports Association.

Liyang Tai Chi Team was established in March 1984, including eight township branches, three martial arts schools, eight seminars and one children's martial arts base. Tens of thousands of people have been practicing Tai Chi in more than 60 morning exercise sites.

In order to thoroughly implement the national fitness program, in January 2016, the Jiangsu Veteran’s Sports Association issued the Opinion on Building Characteristic Towns of Fitness Programs for Seniors.
