On June 15, the second phase of Yaskawa (China) Robotics Co., Ltd. was opened in the Wujin National High-tech Industrial Zone (WIZ). After the second phase of the project is put into production, the annual capacity of its Changzhou plant will reach 18,000 units.

With a total investment of US$69.8 million, Yaskawa (China) Robotics Co., Ltd. is Yaskawa Electric Corporation's first overseas robot production base, which mainly manufactures industrial six-axis robots. In 2017, its sales revenue reached 1.05 billion yuan, which has almost doubled compared to 2016.

The demand for industrial robots has increased dramatically following the release of the "Made in China 2025" blueprint, which aims to improve manufacturing and shift the country away from low-end manufacturing to more value-added production.

The second phase of the project will cover an area of 72 mu (about 4.8 hectares) and increase the total investment by 45 million US dollars. In July this year, Yasukawa (China) Robotics Co., Ltd. will release the 30,000th robot to the Chinese market.

So far, the WIZ has gathered 46 Japanese-funded enterprises including Yaskawa, Ryobi, and Sumitomo Electric.
