On the morning of March 1, Changzhou National High-tech District (CZND) held the first groundbreaking ceremony for key projects in 2019. 35 projects started together with a total investment of 19 billion yuan and an annual planned investment of 9 billion yuan.

Among these projects, there are two provincial key projects, 10 municipal key projects and 23 district key projects, involved in the industrial chains of photovoltaic smart energy, carbon fiber and composite materials, new energy vehicles and core components, new medicines and medical devices, and a new generation of information technology, as well as industries related to high-end services, people's livelihood and infrastructure.

One of them is the intelligent electric vehicle project of Ninebot. Ninebot is a privately held company headquartered in Beijing. In April of 2015 Ninebot acquired Segway Inc., headquartered in Bedford, New Hampshire. The combined companies’ focus is on the research and development, design, manufacturing, distribution and sales of short-distance transportation products. Ninebot is well-known in Asia and Europe. Its investors include Sequoia Capital, Xiaomi Corporation and ShunWei TMT Capital. The new project is invested by its subsidiary No. 9 Technology Co., Ltd. with a total investment of 3 billion yuan. After completion, the production capacity will reach 1 million intelligent electric vehicles per year.

Zhou Bin, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee and secretary of the Party Working Committee of CZND, attended the groundbreaking ceremony and delivered a speech.
