The BRICS Business Forum held on Sept 3 was attended by 1,200 business leaders from 630 companies in China and around the world. Senior officials of Changzhou Trina Solar Energy Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Huiman Investment Group attended the forum.

President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the two-day BRICS Business Forum in Xiamen on Sept 3. Below are some highlights of the speech.

BRICS aims to uphold the spirit of partnership that features openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, safeguard common interests and seek interconnected development.

BRICS countries’ combined GDP has grown by 179%, trade by 94%, and urban population by 28% over these 10 years.

The development of emerging markets and developing countries is not intended to “move the cheese of anyone” but to “make the cake of the global economy bigger”.

Influenced by domestic and global challenges, the development of BRICS countries will encounter setbacks, but the group has great development potential and the trend of moving forward will not change.

BRICS countries should follow the BRICS spirit of openness, inclusiveness, cooperation and win-win results, and work together to build the second golden decade for BRICS cooperation.

BRICS should promote the “BRICS Plus” approach to build an open and diversified network of development partners.

Past achievements have proven that deepening all-round reform is the right path that China should continue to follow. China will push forward supply-side structural reform and accelerate the building of a new system for an open economy.
